(NIV1984) 2 Kings 1:3-4 – “But the angel of the LORD said to Elijah the Tishbite, ‘Go up and meet the messengers of the king of Samaria and ask them, “Is it because there is no God in Israel that you are going off to consult Baal-Zebub, the god of Ekron?” Therefore this is what the LORD says: “You will not leave the bed you are lying on. You will certainly die!”‘ So Elijah went.”
Elijah’s back!! Yay!!!!! 🙂
Ok, so – the angel of the LORD is still meeting and talking with Elijah, even after everything that’s happened so far. Also interesting that Ahaziah is referred to here as “the king of Samaria” when in the last chapter, his father Ahab was almost constantly referred to as “the king of Israel” – or by name.
Now, I don’t know how far away or even where Ekron is, but this seems to imply that it’s in another country. So, yeah, why is Ahaziah going out of his way to consult their god? Even Ahab’s prophets were still in Israel.
Also – Ahaziah’s injuries must have been super serious if he was just lying in bed. He must have been really hurt. And he’s going to die from them! That’s a pretty big deal.
And Elijah is still going and following God, just like he did when we originally saw him – God says go, and he automatically goes.
…but where is Elisha in all this?
