2 Kings 1:2

(NIV1984) 2 Kings 1:2 – “Now Ahaziah had fallen through the lattice of his upper room in Samaria and injured himself.  So he sent messengers, saying to them, ‘Go and consult Baal-Zebub, the god of Ekron, to see if I will recover from this injury.'”

Elijah’s in the next verse!  *fangirl squee*

Anyway.

How did Ahaziah fall through the lattice of his upper room in Samaria?  Like…what even is a lattice in this context?  Is it like a window?  Because I can picture him having a garden with a restrictive lattice – like a fence, maybe? – and falling through that.  In that case, he’d have fallen from at least a second story room.  Maybe that’s why it specifies the upper room?  But I don’t know, so that’s just speculation on my part.  Still — how did he fall through?

And they had to be pretty serious injuries if he was checking to see if he would even survive them.  Maybe he broke his back or something?  Or hit his head really hard?  Idk, but he was apparently seriously worried.

Unfortunately, he sent his messengers to the wrong place.
