(NIV1984) 1 Kings 22:26-27 – “The king of Israel then ordered, ‘Take Micaiah and send him back to Amon the ruler of the city and to Joash the king’s son and say, “This is what the king says: Put this fellow in prison and give him nothing but bread and water until I return safely.”‘”
So…are Amon and Joash buddies? Or just the ones in charge here so they have to work together? And whenever I read Joash, I think of the other Joash. …and how many sons did Ahab have?
Anyway – what does Ahab think this will do? Micaiah is not the one who decides whether Ahab lives or dies – God is. And Micaiah’s prophecies are only what he sees from the LORD. Forcing him to only have bread and water isn’t going to change that. He can’t starve God, and starving Micaiah won’t change anything.
And if Micaiah’s words are what determines Ahab’s success (which they’re not), he shouldn’t have bugged him into changing his original/first statement. I do not understand him. Perhaps he just wanted an excuse to throw Micaiah in jail – but if that were true, why didn’t he do so before now?!
