(NIV1984) 1 Kings 22:20b-22 – “‘One suggested this, and another that. Finally, a spirit came forward, stood before the LORD and said, “I will entice him.”
“‘”By what means?” the LORD asked.
“‘”I will go out and be a lying spirit in the mouths of all his prophets,” he said.
“‘”You will succeed in enticing him,” said the LORD. “Go out and do it.”‘”
There were other suggestions, but the idea of lying through the prophets – that’s okay? I know God is in control, just…this doesn’t make sense to me. Will that spirit be punished for lying? If his prophets are lying because of it, is it sin and false prophecy for them? God gets to make us and do what He wants with us, but sometimes – a lot of times – I am confused by what He does or allows to happen. Like this.
Yet at the same time, here is Micaiah, plainly laying out exactly what happened, so that the LORD also reveals to Ahab the truth. So it all depends on how Ahab responds, who he will believe – Micaiah…or the other prophets?
