(NIV1984) 1 Kings 22:19-20a – “Micaiah continued, ‘Therefore hear the word of the LORD: I saw the LORD sitting on his throne with all the host of heaven standing around him on his right and on his left. And the LORD said, “Who will entice Ahab into attacking Ramoth Gilead and going to his death there?”‘”
So this story is the word of the LORD. Thus, truth.
The first thing is seeing God, surrounded by the heavenly host as He sits on His throne. This is kind of like the image of Ahab and Jehoshaphat sitting on their thrones, surrounded by prophets – parallel imagery – only God is much more of everything. It shows Ahab (and Jehoshaphat?) how much they fail in comparison. It also makes the powerful visual of the two kings that much less powerful. There is no intimidation against Micaiah because he saw God in this way. Even this (most?) powerful display could not scare him.
But then there’s this idea – God is enticing – or having Ahab get enticed – to his death? As a result of everything else? We’ll see just how much farther goes tomorrow.
I’ll be glad to join you guys then!
