1 Kings 21:28-29a

(NIV1984) 1 Kings 21:28-29a – “Then the word of the LORD came to Elijah the Tishbite: ‘Have you noticed how Ahab has humbled himself before me?'”

Ahab’s humility here is so great that not only does God take notice of it, He points it out to His servant-prophet Elijah, too.

This humility is a new response, too.  Although it seems like most of the destruction comes to the king immediately following, Baasha, at least, is not shown to repent.  And Jeroboam’s humility was not pointed out either; at least, not that I can remember.

Ahab ends up teaching us about how we should respond to God’s showing of our sin and the punishment for it – he teaches how and a little bit of what it means to be humble.

And God – pointing it out to Elijah – is pointing it out to us, too.
