(NIV1984) 1 Kings 21:24 – “Dogs will eat those belonging to Ahab who die in the city, and the birds of the air will feed on those who die in the country.”
This is it. The same exact curse pronounced on Jeroboam (1 Kings 14:11) and Baasha (1 Kings 16:4). This puts Ahab in exactly the same boat as they were. And, this is more similar to Baasha’s – causing the people of Israel to sin (1 Kings 16:2). Jeroboam’s was longer and a lot more detailed – a curse on Israel just as much as it was a curse on Jeroboam and his family.
But, really, why didn’t Ahab know or realize this would happen? Hadn’t he seen what went on earlier, didn’t he know what happened to Jeroboam and Baasha and their families? Didn’t he know that to act the way he was acting was to bring swift destruction on himself and his family? Then why did he do it?
Is it possible that he didn’t know? Is it possible that this was why he listened to everybody, so that something like this wouldn’t happen?
Why didn’t he just listen to God?
