1 Kings 21:17

(NIV1984) 1 Kings 21:17 – “Then the word of the LORD came to Elijah the Tishbite:”

-does a little happy dance-

And, yes, this is important enough to take separately.

The word of the LORD still comes to Elijah, even in the everyday moments.  Now, maybe this isn’t an “everyday moment”, but it is a return to what Elijah was previously doing.  Yes, he ran away.  Yes, he had a mountaintop experience in which he was called to appoint his successor.  And then there was a whole chapter where God used other prophets to speak to Ahab.  Sure, He may have been giving Elijah a break, a reprieve, but perhaps (and this is complete speculation on my part) after a while Elijah may have thought God had no use for him anymore except for training his successor.  But this was not true.  God still called Elijah, even after everything, to continue his duty.  His word still came to him.

This is the same with me, with all of us.  We go through hard times, we reach mountaintop experiences, and we get breaks.  But at the end of the day, we are still called to carry out and continue the work God has for us to do.  He never gives up on us, so we, too, must never completely give up.
